TEHRAN (Tasnim) US President Donald Trump announced a 100 percent tariff on all films produced outside the United States, citing threats to national security and the collapse of Americas film sector.

Trump made the declaration on Sunday via his Truth Social platform.

Other countries are offering all sorts of incentives to draw our filmmakers and studios away from the United States, he wrote.

Hollywood and many other areas within the USA are being devastated.

This is a concerted effort by other Nations and therefore a National Security threat.

It is, in addition to everything else, messaging and propaganda.

Trump said he has directed the Department of Commerce and the US Trade Representative to immediately begin the process of implementing the tariff.

WE WANT MOVIES MADE IN AMERICA, AGAIN, he added.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick responded on X, posting, Were on it.

Trumps move follows a steep decline in domestic production.

FilmLA, a non-profit monitoring Los Angeles productions, reports a nearly 40 per cent drop in film and television output in the region over the past decade.

Several countries have attracted US studios with tax incentives and rebates, contributing to the outflow.

Trump framed the issue as not only economic but also cultural, describing foreign film production as a vehicle for propaganda.
