SAN FERNANDO, Oct. 20 (PIA) -- Key officials of the National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19 and the Coordinated Operations to Defeat Epidemic (C.O.D.E.) Team will visit La Union on Oct. 22.

Top officials who are expected to lead the visit are Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque III, National Action Plan Against COVID-19 Chief Implementer Carlito Galvez, Jr., and chief testing czar Secretary Vince Dizon.

According to Mike Aldrin Sabado, chief of operations of Office of Civil Defense Region 1, CODE is a protocol adopted by the government in its continuing battle to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

"The purpose of the visit is to bring support to local government units (LGUS) and an avenue to inform local chief executives about national policies, programs, and activities of the NTF in relation to the pandemic," Sabado said.

Likewise, Sabado said the visit will be a platform to discuss issues and concerns and best practices of the LGU regarding their COVID-19 response.

A program will be held at the Agora Events Hall, Thunderbird Resort in this city wherein the Provincial Incident Management Team in La Union will present the COVID-19 situation in the province to include its Prevent - Detect- Isolate -Treat- Reintegrate (PDITR) Strategy.

After which, the CODE Team will present the Operation LISTO Protocol for the Management of Emerging Infection Diseases and Operational Framework of COVID-19 Response in Workplaces.

One component of the visit will be the conduct of an aggressive testing as part of the Test, Trace, Treat strategy to detect COVID-19 cases in the province.

Sabado said the testing is from Oct. 20 to Oct. 22 at the Poro Point Management Corporation grounds, also this city.

"We target 3,000 tests to be administered from the three-day testing," he said, adding that the swab test is free.

He informed that the city government of San Fernando identified the priority sectors to be swabbed to include tricycle drivers, teachers of the Department of Education, market vendors, and some individuals from regional line agencies within the city.

Meanwhile, Sec. Duque will also grace the launching of the nationwide Measles Rubella-Oral Polio Vaccine Supplemental Immunization campaign to be held at the Provincial Capitol grounds wherein the Philippine Information Agency will facilitate his press conference.

The first phase of the immunization activity will be held from Oct. 26 to Nov. 25 in Mindanao Regions, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley Region, MIMAROPA Region, and Bicol Region. (JCR/JPD, PIA La Union)
