Team China said in a statement that their aim is to enlarge the selection pool for the upcoming Olympic Games and other major sports events shortly, including the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games and the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
The Tokyo Olympic Games, which were initially scheduled for this summer, have been pushed back for one year to July - August of 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The shooting team won China's first-ever Olympic gold medal in Los Angeles 1984, but suffered a significant setback four years ago in Rio de Janeiro, collecting only one gold, two silvers and four bronze medals, which was the worst performance for the team since 1988. ■
