Another horse died at Santa Anita in Arcadia, Calif., on Sunday, the third horse death in as many days at the track.
According to multiple reports, 4-year-old gelding Tikkun Olam collided with another horse during a training session Sunday morning and suffered injuries that required Tikkun Olam to be euthanized. The other horse was reportedly uninjured.
That is the fifth death at the track since Dec. 26, two days before the start of the winter-spring season at Santa Anita. According to the Los Angeles Times, six horses had died through Jan. 19 last year, as 30 horses died during that winter-spring season and 37 died in all at the track last year.
Tikkun Olam had one win in nine starts. His last race was Aug. 28 at Del Mar, finishing sixth in the contest.
According to reports, Harliss, a 6-year-old gelding, suffered a broken ankle following a turf race Friday, and 5-year-old gelding Uncontainable suffered a similar injury down the stretch in a turf race Saturday. Tikkun Olam was the first horse to suffer mortal injuries on the main dirt surface this season.
